Region of Peel Official Plan Review – Open Houses and Public Meetings Notice

Peel2051

Regional Official Plan Review

Public Open House and Statutory Public Meeting

Regional Official Plan Amendment and Municipal Comprehensive Review

Notice is hereby given that the Council of The Regional Municipality of Peel will hold a public meeting and open houses, pursuant to Section 26(3) and 17(16) of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, as amended, to discuss the proposed Regional Official Plan Amendment (ROPA) required as part of the Official Plan Review and Municipal Comprehensive Review (MCR).

A Regional Official Plan is a long-term plan that provides a policy framework for making land use planning decisions, including setting a structure for guiding growth, protecting the environment, and managing resources. In keeping with the Planning Act, the Region must update its Official Plan every five years. This mandatory update ensures that official plan policies stay current with Provincial plan and policy changes and reflect our changing community’s needs.

The purpose of the proposed Official Plan Amendment is to update the Regional Official Plan to ensure conformity to current provincial plans, policies, and legislation. The proposed Amendment is also intended to update the Official Plan to the planning horizon of 2051.

The effect of the proposed Amendment is to add new and updated policies and mapping on the various focus areas identified through the MCR, including the settlement area boundary expansion, growth management, climate change, major transit station areas, housing, greenland systems, transportation, agriculture and rural areas, wildland fire hazards, Provincial Greenbelt Plans, Indigenous engagement, cultural heritage, and waste management. The proposed draft Official Plan Amendment is available on the Region’s Official Plan Review webpage, along with background studies, reports, and discussion papers.

The proposed Official Plan Amendment will apply to all lands within the municipal boundary of the Region of Peel. Accordingly, no key map is included in this Notice.

Open Houses

The Region will be conducting two Open Houses to provide members of the public an opportunity to learn about the proposed ROPA, ask staff questions, and provide comments:

from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Add to calendar

Wednesday, October 27, 2021

Visit the Official Plan Review webpage to join any of these virtual sessions.

Note that the same materials will be presented at each of these Open Houses. The virtual display boards for the Peel 2051 focus areas are available on the public consultation page, which can be reviewed in advance of the Open Houses.

Public Meeting

In addition to the Open Houses, a Public Meeting of Regional Council will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.

Due to the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, the meeting will be live-streamed from the Region of Peel, Council Chamber, 5th Floor, 10 Peel Centre Drive, Suite A, Brampton. Please email the Office of the Regional Clerk or call (905) 791-7800, ext. 4502 for further instructions.

The draft ROPA, supporting technical background studies, and related information is available:

The Town of Caledon’s Alton, Caledon East and Southfields Village Library Branches will offer some devices and connectivity for the times and dates of the open houses and public meeting, while still following capacity limits with health and safety protocols in place.

What is an Official Plan?

An Official Plan is an overarching policy document that acts as a road map for how our community will develop, locate housing, build transportation networks, locate employment, offer community facilities, and much more. Official Plans are necessary to promote smart land use decision-making and ensure compatibility between different land uses (e.g., residential, industrial, agricultural) and ensure that we are protecting our environment and natural resources. Official Plans also identify future infrastructure needs to support a growing community through the provision of parks, transit options, schools and recreation spaces.

West Caledon Communities Aggregate Group – Presentation to Region of Peel – October 7th between 10 am and 1pm

Over the past several months, the West Caledon Communities Aggregate Group, of which the B.C.O. is a member, has diligently worked on a presentation for the Region of Peel Planning and Growth Management Committee regarding the impact of aggregate operations on our water.  This PowerPoint review will present a compelling case for more robust Official Plan policies to deal with future quarry applications.  A stronger, more environmentally sensitive Peel Official Plan could be a game changer for all future Aggregate applications.

This online presentation is scheduled for October 7th between 10am and 1pm before the Region of Peel Planning and Growth Committee.  The meeting will be live streamed on http://www.peelregion.ca/  A copy of the agenda can be found here  .

The members of the committee are:  G.Carlson, P. Fortini, N. Iannicca, J. Innis, L. Kiernan, M. Medeiros, C. Parrish (Chair), R. Starr, A. Thompson (Vice-Chair), and P. Vicente

We urge all of you to watch this presentation online. Strong community interest will send a clear message.

We hope you can join us and show your support!

Thank you

Town of Caledon – Future Caledon Vision Survey Launch

Caledon is updating its Official Plan to guide our continued growth and evolution as a community. The new Official Plan will serve as a road map for the next 30+ years and will guide land use planning decisions related to development, housing, transportation, employment, community facilities and more. Our new OP will embrace Caledon’s community charm while ensuring we are prepared for the future.

We have launched a Vision Survey to collect community feedback in support of creating a Vision Statement and Guiding Principles for the Town’s Official Plan. This is the community’s opportunity to tell us the kind of community Caledon should be in the next 30+ years. The Vision Statement and Guiding Principles will assist the Caledon Team as they proceed with initial policy directions to guide land use planning decisions.

We want to hear from you! Check out the Vision Survey with the link below:
