OPP Reminding off Road Riders to Wear Proper Safety Equipment
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Central Region has investigated two deaths related to off-road vehicle use this past week.Â
Fatalities such as these are as tragic as they are preventable. The OPP is reminding riders of their responsibility to always wear the proper protective equipment to reduce the risks of injury; and to ensure the safe operation of off-road vehicles to afford the opportunity to react appropriately to sudden changes in trail conditions. All-terrain vehicles and other off-road vehicles require skill, good judgement and the proper use of helmets and other safety equipment to operate safely.
âHelmets are required by law and personal protective equipment can reduce the risk of serious injuries. Riders should remain vigilant of the ever-changing terrain and operate their recreational vehicles within their personal capabilitiesâ, said Chief Superintendent John Tod, Regional Commander OPP Central Region
Personal protective equipment can include goggles that fit over the helmet, gloves, chest protectors, proper footwear and other safety related sportswear.
